I probably just haven't found the right setting yet, but is there an equivalent of the "Auto-Number" field type from Access? I'm trying to build a database to track inventory for a small artists' co-op that I volunteer at, and I need each item to have a unique ID number.

edited to add:
Is it possible to look up the default value of a field in a related table? (I can't seem to come up with a clearer way to put that because I haven't had my coffee, but I'm talking about putting something into the "default value" box for a field that would look it up in a related table.)

Passing this along from a friend I'm trying to convert to the joys of OpenOffice...

There is definitely only a word processor, no spreadsheet program. I also have a problem with printing - it doesn't print. The print setup appears correct. Also, I assume this applies only to the Mac version, but it opens up very strangely... first it opens the terminal (like DOS) and then I have to go to a folder to open up the program.

I've never used the Mac version, only Linux and Windows, so I'm clueless. Can anyone give me a quick rundown on whether this is normal? Thanks.

I can't seem to find the methods of adding headers, footers and page numbering to a document in Open Office. I'm running 2.3.1 and am used to Wordperfect 12 (and not MS-Word) so I may just be looking in the wrong place. I've been looking at the format pulldown menu but not seeing what I need. Any help would be appreciated.

I have the numbers 10 through 20 across the top of a spreadsheet in columns A through J. In the subsequent rows I'm inputting numbers of random data. So on row 9 for example, if I put anything that starts with a 1 in one of the columns open office tries to auto-complete with the number from row 1. So if I JUST want to put a 1 in a column, it thinks it should auto-complete based on the 14 (or whatever) at the top, and I have to stop and tell it no. This makes data entry much slower.

Is there way to say "Don't try and auto-complete any words or numbers until there are at least 3 chars typed?" Trying to auto-complete on ONE enter keystroke seems pretty aggressive.

I'm a new user of Ubuntu, and am trying to use WINE to access MS Office due to some compatibility issues MS Excel has with OO Calc. One such example is the function sumproduct and productsum.

What I want to ask is:
1. Is there any way I can use OO to edit .xls and export as a .xls seamlessly?
- My data comes IN as a .xls, but when I edit in OO, all the sumproduct forumlae become an 502 error. After I edit and save this as a .xls and send OUT to other people, they will not be able to see the formulae results already.

2. Is there any other thing I'm doing wrong in trying to integrate OO with MS Office? Maybe someone has managed to use MS Office 03 with WINE and is successful?

Please help, thanks!

I'm an Open Office user for many years, and I adore this piece of software.

I need some help, and I haven't been able to find it in the online help nor by googling. I want to be able to center an image in a cell. I can paste the image into the cell, and I can move it around by hand, but it would be so much easier if it would just automatically center.

Thanks for any help or advice.

Has anyone else run into the problem under Ubuntu/Gnome where going to File->Print causes OO to crash, reproducibly? I'm employing the "don't use a non-default theme" workaround, but that's kind of a drag. The bug report is a couple of months old and apparently the bug still exists.

Has anyone come up with a better solution than just not switching the theme?

My wife is trying to figure out what the differences are between OO and MS-Office in regards to functionality, specifically with Excel, as she has had problems running spreadsheets from work (done in Excel) in Open Office for some time. Is it something like Visual Basic propriotary functions not being supported in macros or something else that might be causing the problems in general? (sorry, no example documents I can point at).

Anyone with insight to this???

Also, are there differences between the version of OO for the Mac and the one for the PC?

Whitesmoke.com : Anyone know anything about this software? It's supposed to be an intelligent 'grammer checker' for writing, but their website doesn't give pricing information unless you register with them (and thus give them your email address).

Is it real, or a scam? What do they charge and is it any good? Inquiring minds want to know.
